Hi, and welcome to the Fire Up at 55 Plus Podcast, a show about how to put yourself first in your second act of life. I'm Certified Life and Weight Loss Coach Lori Adams, here to empower you to let go of guilt, take charge of your health, then find and fulfill your dreams. It's never too late, so let's get started. Welcome back to Fire Up at 55 Plus. This is the podcast for women ready to ditch the fatigue, defy stereotypes, and design a bold, beautiful life in midlife and beyond. I'm your certified life, weight loss, and productivity coach Lori Adams, and today on episode number ninety-nine, we're talking about something we all want more of. The episode is titled That Spring Reset Starts for You Now. Rescue Your Energy Easily with Food and Movement. Yep, talking about what we all want more of for a fit and lean life. Energy, real physical energy, not the caffeine jolt, not the push through the exhaustion kind of energy. I'm talking about sustainable. Lights you up from the inside out vitality, the kind that lets you move with power, think with clarity, and live your days on your own terms. But let's be real, Midlife Plus can feel like an energy drain. Hormones shift, metabolism changes, sleep patterns go sideways, and suddenly, you know, your get up and go has gotten up and gone. Mine certainly has from time to time. And if that sounds familiar, stay with me. In this episode, I'm sharing how to reclaim your physical energy. It's never too late at any age. And how it's deeply tied to two things we can control how we fuel our bodies and how we move them. Let's start strong with this truth. Energy isn't something you wait for. It's something you generate. Now that's worth repeating, as in your daily affirmation. Say that with me. I generate energy. You can be looking in the mirror when you do that. You can be tying your running shoes when you do that. You can be lifting a kettlebell when you do that. Or you can just be walking outside appreciating nature. So if you're wary of the hokey, unbelievable affirmations that people get embarrassed to say, well, this one is clearly a straightforward, purposeful one. You can repeat, believe, and live into. I generate energy. It's going to spur you into action because your mind is going to go down that path of hmm, how can I generate energy? What could I do? Hmm, play tennis again. Oh, maybe go swimming. Oh, just call up a friend and let's walk together. So instead of waiting to feel motivated, we create momentum through consistent action, intentional actions to generate energy. And this is especially important when it comes to food and movement. These are not punishments, they're power sources for you to claim your power and power up your energy. So three sources areas I want to talk about. First, number one, fuel, not just food. Here's the game changer. Don't think of meals as being good or being bad. Think of them as fuel. Ask yourself, will this meal fuel my mission? Will it energize my body, my mind, my goals? Midlife plus women do need more protein, colorful vegetables, healthy fats, and more hydration than we think, not for dieting, for power, for muscle preservation, for brain clarity, for hormone balance. So you're not just eating to survive or to entertain yourself. You're eating to thrive. So what does that look like? You know, picture your day. Think breakfast, Greek yogurt with berries and walnuts. A colorful stir fry for lunch with lean protein, a hydration habit that kicks off before coffee. I do not allow myself to take that sip of my morning coffee until I have had at least twelve ounces of water first. One down. You deserve food that honors your body and gives you the internal glow of energy, not just now and then, but every day. That is living your best life. So the second source, movement as a generator. So now we're going to talk motion because motion creates emotion, the feelings that vibrate and get you going. It also creates energy. You don't need a boot camp, you don't need 75 hard, you don't need to run marathons, but you do need to move regularly, joyfully, and in a way that is happy for you, doable for you, and remind your body it is strong, capable, and alive. Start where you are. Don't try to power through. No pain, no gain. Well, we all have learned that that's not true. So maybe it's just a 15-minute walk. Maybe it's a 10-minute strength session with dumbbells. Maybe it's dancing in your kitchen to your favorite music from the 80s. Consistency builds capacity. And guess what? Energy expands when you do. And a quick mindset tip on top of the physical. Do not wait until you feel like it. Or until you've created the perfect exercise workout plan on paper. Start moving and the good feelings will follow, the endorphins. That's how the energy loop begins. And it's how your neuropathways, using your prefrontal cortex, the good decision brain, veer into good habits, that neuroplasticity that helps you to change for the better. Let me remind you of something important here. Your body isn't betraying you, it's been carrying you. And now it's asking for new support. It is not tired, but ready for some extra love. You are absolutely capable of giving it. You can rid yourself of veering into fatigue. You are not too old, it's not too late, and you're not starting over. You're just rising up with a seasonal adjustment, your very own reset. The reset that is seasonal that was shared in the broadcast last week by our expert friend, Dr. Lisa Olson, obesity medicine specialist and board certified, and a weight loss coach. So here we're just giving you the practical steps to get into that now. So the third source is creating an energy ritual. You know, habits. So I'm going to give you a fire up at 55 plus power move for the week. Pick just one fuel habit, just one. The food fuel. Maybe adding twenty grams of protein to your breakfast, an energy shake, some extra yogurt, potted cheese, even pancakes. Use one of those protein mixes or protein powder in it. Then pick just one movement habit. Maybe it's walking for ten minutes before lunch. Maybe it's a quick fun ride bike ride. Or maybe it's on a Peloton. Do this for seven days. No perfection, just presence. And then at the end of the week, ask yourself Do I feel more energized? Do I feel more in charge of my body? Do I feel proud? You'll probably be able to answer without asking Are you sleeping better? Because this is how midlife becomes your power zone. Not by hustling harder, not by self improvement. You don't need to be improved, I always say. But by generating developing self development with energy. Again, on your terms, that's what makes it doable. Some things that resonate with you. So if today's episode sparked something in you, please pass it on. Share it with a friend who needs to hear it. And remember that every powerful change does start with one small shift. Until next time I want you to keep fueling, keep moving, and keep firing up for the best chapter of your life. In the best chapter now. Remember, this story of renewal is authored beautifully by you. Embrace each new chapter as an exciting opportunity for growth and happiness. I can't wait to see how the rest of your 2025 story unfolds with your utmost fulfillment.
